Good Friday 2017 is on Friday 14 April. Once again the churches of West Norwood and Tulse Hill will be coming together for a Walk of Witness, starting from Tulse Hill Methodist Church at 9.45am.
This year St Luke’s will be hosting a Robes Project ‘floating’ night shelter on Sunday nights, from Sunday 6 November until Sunday 15 January, including Sunday 1 January (although guests will go to Crisis at Christmas for the week of Christmas).
How the project works:
- Across Lambeth and Southwark 22 churches open their doors. These churches are the venues for the Robes Project night shelter.
- 15-20 guests stay at the night shelter. They are men and women over 18 years old. All guests have been referred and interviewed before joining the night shelter. Guests stay for up to 28 days initially. Teams of volunteers run the night shelter, providing hospitality, welcoming guests and providing dinner and breakfast.
- The venue changes each night of the week on a weekly rotation. The guests staying at the night shelter move each night of the week.
- At 7pm the guests sign-in at the night shelter. Everybody enjoys a delicious supper before going to bed. The Robes Project provides camp beds and bedding for everyone. There is a generous breakfast in the morning.
We are keen to invite people in our parish to work with us, providing a small team of around three people to make dinner for 25 people on a Sunday evening or breakfast on a Monday morning, as part of a take-turns rota. Alternatively, anyone interested can apply to help out on an individual basis.
If you need any further information please don’t hesitate to contact our Parish Administrator at firstname.lastname@example.org who will be coordinating the project.
